The true measure of a woman is facing
everyone the day after your Jerry
Maguire breakdown.
It sucks after your Jerry Maguire moment,
but most likely some very human emotion
got you there.
You won’t want to, but pick your head up,
get back in the game, plug and chug,
this too shall pass.
You may wonder, what happened?
Things usually go well.
No one wants to talk to you.
People whisper after you walk by.
There are times when something
happens that is pretty humiliating,
and afterward, everyone avoids
you.
I call these times, ‘pizza for one’
moments.
Once, when I had one of these
experiences, there was a pizza
party afterward. Everyone ended
up having pizza together in one
room, and I found myself eating
my pizza slice alone in an adjacent
room.
How did this happen?
It happens.
You get up the next day. You go in.
You show up. You plug and chug.
You just start moving again.
The first rip of the band-aid hurts
and then the rest is OK.
You soon forget what it was you
were upset about.
Some wise man told me once
when I had one of these moments
that I should pinch my arm REALLY
hard.
I did – with suspicion.
He then asked, does your arm still work? YES.
Fingers work? YES
Did the pinch hurt? YES.
Can you move on with your arm now? YES.
You forget, you move on, you get back on
your A-game.
Sometimes, you have to do your best,
even when things are not going your way.
This too shall pass.
Now, I actually ask people to hurry up and
go, so I can have my pizza alone.
Some things you only learn from experience.
The people are not against you, they are for
themselves.
Ten years from now, you will not believe
how much you let it matter.
Don’t let it matter, remember character
comes from the getting back up.
As you grow over time, you begin to
understand, it is these life experiences of
getting back up, getting over it, and realizing
it shall pass and you will grow that is good.
There is goodness in substance, experience,
resilience, longevity, persistence, and
consistency.
With time, you just won’t lose your peace
anymore.
